Central Georgia Genealogical Society

POST OFFICE BOX 2024
WARNER ROBINS, GEORGIA 31099-2024

ORGANIZATION: The CENTRAL GEORGIA GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY, Inc. was organized in October 1978 by James T. Martin of Warner Robins, Georgia. In February 1981, the Society was incorporated as a non-profit organization under the law of the State of Georgia. The U.S. Internal Revenue Service has determined that the Society is a tax-exemption organization under Section 501(c)(3), U.S. Internal Revenue Code of 1954. The Society is governed by a Board of Directors consisting of the elected and appointed officers and six elected Directors.

AREA: The Society's geographical area of primary interest consists of twenty-seven contiguous counties located in central Georgia. They are: BALDWIN, BIBB, BLECKLEY, CRAWFORD, CRISP, DODGE, DOOLY, HOUSTON, JOHNSON, JONES, LAMAR, LAURENS, MACON, MONROE, MONTGOMERY, PEACH, PIKE, PULASKI, TAYLOR, TELFAIR, TREUTLEN, TWIGGS, UPSON, WASHINGTON, WHEELER, WILCOX, and WILKINSON.

PURPOSE: The purposes for which the corporation is organized are:

To collect, preserve and disseminate knowledge and information with reference to genealogical and related historical, biographical and heraldic data;

To inculcate and promote interest in research in these fields;

To stimulate and provide instruction in the use of efficient methods and the adherence to principles of accuracy and thoroughness in research;

To champion ethical standards and to discourage and oppose incompetent and disreputable practices or researchers;

To foster careful documentation and otherwise promote scholarly writing;

To issue publications, and

To promote the collection and the preservation of local records which are of genealogical or historical value.

MEMBERSHIP: Membership in the Society is open to any person interested in promoting the objectives stated above. Annual dues for 2005 are: $25.00 for individual membership; $30.00 for family membership (husband and wife, or two related persons in same household). All members receive a 10% discount on all CGGS published items.

TRAINING: At least twice each year the Society conducts classes for beginner genealogists. These classes are free for members in good standing.

WORKSHOP: The Society plans to hold an all day workshop once each year, complete with exhibits, for members and the public. The registration fee will be set to cover the Society's cost and may vary from year to year, depending upon prices charged for food, meeting facilities, speaker fees, etc.

PROJECTS: The Society undertakes special projects for preservation of genealogical and historical information, such as: microfilming old newspapers, abstracting and publishing county court records, federal census records, cemetery records, etc.

PUBLICATIONS: The Society publishes a bimonthly NEWSLETTER and a QUARTERLY. The QUARTERLY is published four times per year as number 1 thru 4 and is mailed to all memebers in good standing. The annual volume number represents the years in existence. Many other societies, who are members, receive our QUARTERLY. QUERIES from members only, are published in the QUARTERLY free of charge. There is no limit as to the number of queries which a member may submit. BOOK REVIEWS are published when a copy of the book has been received by the Society. After review, these books are donated to the Genealogical and Historical Room, Washington Memorial Library, Macon, Georgia, whose holdings are one of the largest in the SouthEast. Members are encouraged to submit ARTICLES FOR PUBLICATION in the QUARTERLY, and extra long articles may be serialized. The QUARTERLY is not copyrighted and anyone is welcome to make proper use of the contents; however, the use of articles quoted from other published sources is prohibited without permission from the copyright holder. Appropriate credit will be appreciated. The QUARTERLY is not sold by subscription. Current and back issues may be purchased from the Society when available. The Society welcomes the opportunity to publish FAMILY PEDIGREE CHARTS for members. Minimum coverage of four generations is required. Our computer design charts provide for as much information on the fifth generation as the second, third and fourth - most charts provide much less. Give us as much complete information as possible on available forms and separate paper.

MEETINGS: The Society holds regular monthly meetings with planned programs. These meetings are currently held at the Flint Electric Building, 900 Highway 96, Warner Robins, Georgia at 7pm on the second Monday of each month. In addition to the program, time permitting, a question and answer session is usually conducted for the benefit of members who have a problem with their research, or who have found a better way for accomplishing their work. Visitors and guests are always welcome to attend regular meeting of the Society. Our current membership covers many states and we invite you to join our Society. For a membership application, write to the Corresponding Secretary at the address shown in the heading above or call (478) 953-3114. You may also create a membership application online to mail to the Society.
